MORE ABOUT THIS TOOL
Use our Minecraft map generator to turn a real place into a playable Minecraft world. Pick anywhere on Earth and generate streets, buildings, parks, rivers and terrain based on real-world map data. You can explore your own neighbourhood, a city centre, a school campus or almost any mapped location in Minecraft Java or Bedrock Edition.
If you are looking for other ways to create custom characters and content, explore our AI Minecraft Skins or browse more AI Minecraft Tools .
Move the selection box over the area you want to recreate, choose your Minecraft edition and generate the world. There is no need to build every street manually or install WorldEdit, mods or custom commands.
The result is a ready-to-use Minecraft world based on the real location you selected rather than a randomly generated seed.
Choose Bedrock Edition if you play Minecraft on iPhone, iPad, Android, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch or Minecraft for Windows. The generated world is provided as a .mcworld file that Minecraft can import.
Choose Java Edition if you use Minecraft: Java Edition on Windows, macOS or Linux. The generated map is provided as a world folder that can be added to your Minecraft saves directory.
| Platform | Edition | World Format | How to Open |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone, iPad, Android, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, Minecraft for Windows | Bedrock Edition | .mcworld | Open or import the file with Minecraft |
| Windows, macOS or Linux with Minecraft: Java Edition | Java Edition | World folder | Add the extracted folder to your Minecraft saves directory |
The accuracy of a generated Minecraft world depends on the source data available for that location. Streets, building footprints, paths and other mapped features come from OpenStreetMap, while terrain is created using open elevation and land-cover data.
Well-mapped cities usually contain more buildings and street detail. Rural or less thoroughly mapped locations may contain accurate terrain but fewer structures. Building heights can also vary depending on how much information has been recorded for each building.
A generated real-world map gives you a recognizable starting point that you can continue building yourself. You can explore your hometown in Creative Mode, start a survival world around familiar streets, recreate a real neighbourhood, use the terrain for a large building project or generate a location for a Minecraft video or school project.
Yes. Choose a location on the map and the Minecraft map generator turns available streets, buildings, terrain and other geographic features into a playable Minecraft world.
Yes. Search for your town or neighbourhood, select the area you want to recreate and generate it as a Minecraft world. The amount of detail depends on the map data available for that location.
Yes. You can generate worlds for both Minecraft Bedrock Edition and Minecraft: Java Edition. Choose the edition that matches the device you use to play.
Bedrock worlds can be used with Minecraft on iPhone, iPad, Android, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and Minecraft for Windows. Java worlds are for Minecraft: Java Edition on Windows, macOS and Linux.
Download the .mcworld file and open it with Minecraft. On compatible iPhone, iPad and Android devices, Minecraft imports the file and adds the generated world to your worlds list.
Download and extract the world folder, then place it in your Minecraft saves directory. The map will then appear in your Java Edition single-player world list.
No. The world is generated for you and downloaded as a regular Minecraft world. You do not need WorldEdit, mods or commands to create the map.
You can generate anything from a small street or neighbourhood to a larger part of a town or city. Larger areas contain more map data, take longer to generate and produce larger world files.
Generation usually takes a few minutes, but the exact time depends on the size of the selected area and the amount of building, road and terrain data it contains.
Accuracy depends on the geographic data available for the selected location. Well-mapped areas generally contain more complete streets, buildings and other features, while locations with limited map coverage may have less detail.
Buildings, roads and other features can only be recreated when the underlying map contains enough information about them. Areas with more complete OpenStreetMap coverage usually produce more detailed Minecraft worlds.
Yes. Available elevation data is used to recreate the shape of the real terrain, including hills, valleys and other large changes in elevation.
Streets, buildings and other mapped features are based on OpenStreetMap data. Open elevation and land-cover datasets are also used to recreate terrain and ground features.
Minecraft Education can import compatible .mcworld files, making generated real-world maps useful for projects involving geography, cities, landmarks and real locations.
